Reflection on documentry and Maggie's Farm

After watching the documentary on the workplace and working conditions from back then I am baffled as to how big of a change there is in comparison to the present. The music that was written and sung by the many people that had been going through tough times whether it was finding a job or not getting paid a fair amount was very emotional. For many of these adults they couldn't get enough money to provide for their family which was very hard and the songs reflect those dark times. It stuck out to me and is absurd that kids from the ages of four to ten had to work fourteen hours to get paid as little as twenty five cents a week. Looking at our society now many kids don’t start working till sixteen which is the normal age for many workplaces.
After listening to the song “Maggie's Farm” by Bob Dylan I started to think critically of what I thought it meant. He is rebelling by repeatedly saying “I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more” This is a reflection because during this time many business owners were lowering minimum wage and the workers would try to rebel but the there was always a person that would gladly take the job for less than what they are giving. This stripped away the workers right and forced them to make a choice whether to quit and leave their family stranded or work and get paid less and barely support your family. This is tough to think about and looking at how our society has changed we all should be grateful that we are getting paid a fair amount for working hard.
