Music during the Industrial Revolution

American History has always been an interesting topic to me. As we watched the documentary of music during the Industrial Revolution, I became fascinated by the ways that the music was interpreted. The Industrial Revolution was a very rough time in the history of the American workforce; as many workers were struggling to find jobs, and oppressive workplace practices were present. Music was used to describe struggles in the workplace, and the emotional feel of the workers.

The slow and strong lyrics of the songs reminded me of a real life depressive state that certain people suffer from. It gave the feeling of the workers being trapped in a factory, or doing a job they didn't want to do, and feeling as if they couldn't break free from it. The music played also described the oppression that many workers suffered through, as some were judged by skin color or gender. History lessons can be taken out of music; to show the horrible realities of an oppressed system, and remind people to never go back to those systems.
