In this week’s class, we discussed a lot about about protest songs and also about Bob Dylan. I find Bob Dylan to be quiet radical in his time. I did a lot of research on him while writing my essay and realized that he was very influential in the music industry. After listening to some of his songs I decided to do some research to learn more about him and his music. While looking through articles and blogs I concluded that Bob Dylan was an American singer-songwriters of the 20th century, known for songs that chronicle social and political issues. Dylan was quite influential in his time known for his folk music.
After listening to a few of his songs I realized that all of his songs had a strong message and that his lyrics had meaning and a purpose. Bob Dylan's influence on music is powerful and his main goal was to express what he felt throughout writing and performing his music. “As a songwriter, he created several different schools of pop songwriting, from confessional singer/songwriter to winding, hallucinatory, stream-of-consciousness narratives As a vocalist, he broke down the notion that a singer must have a conventionally good voice in order to perform, thereby redefining the vocalist's role in popular music.
As a musician, he sparked several genres of pop music, including electrified folk-rock and country-rock. Bob Dylan’s influence continued throughout several generations, and is still listened to today. Dylan's influence throughout folk music marks a pivotal turning point in its 20th century evolution, signifying when the genre moved away from traditional songs and toward personal songwriting. While analyzing one of his songs I not only learned about him as an artist but it also made me wonder how many songs in that time era had something to do with things that were going on at the time in the world.
