History is not one of my strong suits at all in school. So, this being a history class involved also in writing is kind of freaked me out at first, because I’m also not the best at writing papers also. This class is more fascinating then other of my other history classes within my school experience. I believe that the involvement of music really changes my thoughts about this class.
Music has always been a big part of my life and also, I have always been interesting about where it came it. When I am interested in a topic, I love learning about this stuff.
I am a dancer, so music is a big part of what I love to do. If you don’t have music sometimes the dance can be strange to watch. Music makes the mood of a dance. It gives the emotion to the dancer to pay off of. My life would be very different without music. I am also listening to music as I am writing this paper out.
Back to the class, I love how they used music as a tool as protest because music can be a way of bringing people together. It doesn’t matter what your skin color is, everyone can listen to the same song and all sing it together.
That is what unions did for all the workers during the industrial revaluation. They brought all people together for a cause of safe working conditions for all factory workers. They protested with them and created these songs for protest.
The example that is coming to mind is the song we listened to in class, “Maggie Farm” covered by the band Rage Against the Machine. You could also see the emotion of the piece of music and feel the rage of the piece. You can tell that these people were not treated well. So the unions really changed the way they are treated and how everything turned for the better though protest and the songs they sang.
I agree with you on History not being one of your best subjects because it isn't mine either and I get enjoyment out of the class as well! I take music with me everywhere and couldn't imagine a life without it. Workers unions have definitely impacted the industry positively compared to what it used to be like.
