Maggie’s farm

Bob Dylan’s song called Maggie’s Farm, is a about how he is done working on the farm. On the farm he performed tasks like cleaning the floor and he was treated disrespectfully.  This song was written to bring up how jobs treated people poorly and they did not get paid enough for what they did. This is an important topic at the time but became even more important when a famous singer also brought it up. During this time the industries were not good so it’s important that music can also help us reflect on what we need to fix. Personally I did not like this song. The overall message that it was trying to send was a good idea but I think the angry tone of the song makes the message become less clear. I also think the song is annoying. Bob Dylan says the same thing over and over again, it’s very repetitive. I mostly listen to music to forget about any problems, whether they are my own personal problems or problems that are happening in the world, I listen to music to forget about those problems. Listening to Bob Dylan’s song reminds me of the problems, and that is one of the reasons why I listen to music. I would rather listen to music that makes me happy and that talk about positive things. A song that I like that is a very happy song is Said Nobody by Old Dominion. This song is a country song that talks about stuff that nobodies said before because they are good things! I like this song because it is positive.

  1. Personally, I found Maggie's Farm to be rather annoying as well due to the repetition. It was depressing and not a relaxing song at all. However, I think that the repetition helps to convey the frustration and emotions the workers were feeling being forced to work under such poor conditions.

  2. I strongly agree with the repetition of the song. it was not my favorite. In The Rage Against the Machine version, it did define the anger that the workers were feeling. Which interested me.
