Bob Dylan

For our homework assignment this week, we had to chose a song by Bob Dylan. I chose the song Blowin' In the Wind. This song is about Civl Rights Movement in the 60's and Dylan's point of the song is wondering when will enough be enough? He sings, "How many roads must a man walk down before you call him a man?" meaning, when will an African American be looked at like a human in everyones eyes. The answer to all these questions he says, "Is blown' in the wind." It's right in front of everyone's faces yet no one is getting it. No one is choosing to start treating every race equally as human beings. Another quote from the song is "How many years can someone exist before they're allowed to be free?" These people don't get to live freely because they are so restricted like they're animals. Everyone should be free no matter their race or ethnicity.
In the last verse, Dylan sings, "How many ears must one man have before he can hear people cry?" People are looking for help and for people to voice their feelings to make a change in society. People see this occurring everyday and it can be hard sometimes to be the one to voice out whats going on. There was a lot of mistreatment going on and in Dylan's song, he was asking when enough will be enough and a change will be made.
Of course, there has to be some anger when a topic like this is being addressed but Dylan doesn't express much in the song. The song is slow and calming. It's subtle but effective when it comes to the Civil Rights and Dylan makes the point known without being so direct with words.
