Whether it is during my morning commute to school or work, at the gym, doing homework, or even in the shower, I always have music playing. I love all genres of music and depending what mood I am in I usually play a specific artist or album. Music is like therapy to me. It has the incredible power of healing people and bringing people together to rejoice. Whether it is the tune, chorus or lyrics that speak to you in a song, the power music has on an individual or crowd is substantial.
The first day of class we talked about what role music plays in each of our lives. Music plays such an important role in so many peoples lives because of the talented and gifted musicians that are able to communicate deep messages in a creative way for people to relate to and learn from. Musicians are able to use their platform to inspire and educate their fans in such an authentic and influential way. Musicians can have such an impact on peoples lives all throughout the world. Some songs are so deep and can save lives or cause a social or political movement. Others can simply put you in a happy mood by zoning out of reality for a little bit.
There is a song for every feeling you feel. People can relate all throughout the world. You never feel alone while listening to music and that is a comfortable aspect of it which I like to call therapy! It is like the artist is taking the words right out of your mouth and singing them in such a beautiful way that allows people to feel strong connections to. Music is such a beautiful thing and I could never imagine living without it. I am excited and interested to see what this class has in store for all of us students to learn about how influential music can truly be.
This is a blog devoted to the ideas and analysis of BSU students as they discover, listen, read, analyze the works of various musical artists, across various genres, whose music centers on political, social, and/or cultural issues. The ultimate goal of the class, other than focusing on the students' writing skills, is to allow them the space and time to express their own opinions and ideas, to expose them to music that can and has made significant change.
