Music in America

Prior to this class, I knew music in America was stolen from black musicians because black people were already given very little opportunities for success and music was one of the few things they can turn to in order to make a living. Record labels would sell a pipe dream to these black artist just to take the work from them and give it to a white artist to make it sell better from deep-rooted racism and racial biases. For example, Elvis Presley is one of the most notable artists to have music that was written by the black artist and given to him to make it sell better one of the hits was hound dog by Willie Mae Thornton. Under Elvis Presley, the song became one of the best selling singles of all time sold over ten million copies and stayed on the charts for eleven weeks in a row.  No matter what music has always made an impact on the people around them whether it was done politically or done out of sheer convenience.

A lot of musicians made political songs in regards to racism and injustice within America since they were the person to witness it first hand or they experienced it. The public has always had a love for political music because the song can be brilliant and they gain an insight on what others go through on a daily basis. As a music lover, I love political songs because they are powerful you can hear a rawness from the artist that you may not hear from other songs they have done in regards to the many genres. Political music is the type of music that just feels more real than other music types.

As an example of political music is the starred spangled banner it has racism and injustice of black people since they were not the people that the song was written for. They still had to endure slavery and race degradation on a daily basis and white people were the witnesses and perpetrators of that problem. They used hypocrisy with freedom of all man so none will have fear of murder bad living conditions and abuse but had slaves that had to endure all of those issues every day till they died.
