When I was registering for classes and looking for a first year seminar this music consciousness class was the only one that really jumped out at me. Ever since I can remember I have always loved music, whether it was playing in the background in my kitchen as a child, or dancing to it or just screaming a good song with my friends in a car. I have always loved music. It’s a force that drives the world to do whatever it always just helps.
Around the age of 13 I got very into music and learning about why my favorite artists wrote their songs or their upbringing, influences and background. I find it so fascinating because no matter how hard I try I can’t even come close to being a musician myself. So when someone can write a song that speaks volumes to whatever they're going through or what's happening in the world. I love to watch documentaries on artists as well some of my favorites are about Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, The Jackson 5 and many others.
This class also excites me because I’m a sucker for 60s-80s protest music. Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Buffalo Springfield and many others have wrote not only great tunes to jam to, but songs with very powerful messages within them that got out to a large audience. Which is so cool to think about it because in a way it shaped our nation's history, they used their platform to get a message out to the people that encouraged many protests.
Haha that's funny I was doing the same when I was registering for classes as well. I wanted something that had to do with music and when I seen this class I was excited about it. Music is everything to me and it helps with all a lot of issues. I'm more of 80s,90s and early 2000s like Michael Jackson, Prince, 2pac, Chris Brown and etc. I'm into Rap, R&B, and etc.
