What does music mean to me?

I could go on and on about how much music truly means to me but I guarantee nobody would want to read something that long so I will shorten it. The music program here at BSU is about 85% of the reason I even came to this school. I am a music education major so obviously music will have a huge impact on the rest of my life. As a student of music I hear music completely differently then anybody else does. I know this because I started really focusing on music much later than most people involved with music so I remember when it wasn't a huge part of my life. Sometimes it can be very horrible hearing music the way I do because I break down every single individual part and each note and what it all means and sometimes it gets annoying and I just want to be able to listen and not think about anything. Other times however, it is so fun being able to analyze music and really be able to appreciate its key components that get overlooked by anybody else that listens to music.
If it weren't for music I honestly have no idea what I would be doing at this point in my life. There are many important people in my life who I would have never met if it weren't for music and my career choice would most certainly be something different.
There are many different forms of music and each one is beautiful in its own way. Either it be what genre you listen to, such as pop, country, or rap, or how music is supposed to be played, either lyrically, or straight forward. Each one is beautiful because it allows the person listening to understand what the performer truly is trying to say with their message.
Music is used in many different things and many different places that we might sometimes take for granted. Just imagine how dead and boring sporting events would be in between timeouts or between quarters, with no music playing in the stadium. Now imagine video games without music. Music is what many people remember from video games themselves and it goes under the radar sometimes in the gaming industry sometimes.

  1. I think that’s really cool that you are able to listen so closely to a song and break it all down. I usually don’t do that but when I do I think it’s usuallt when I am in the car listening to music alone. I’ve never really thought about how silent and weird things such as sporting events and video games would be without music, it would be so boring.
