This is a blog devoted to the ideas and analysis of BSU students as they discover, listen, read, analyze the works of various musical artists, across various genres, whose music centers on political, social, and/or cultural issues. The ultimate goal of the class, other than focusing on the students' writing skills, is to allow them the space and time to express their own opinions and ideas, to expose them to music that can and has made significant change.

Power Of Music
Music has the power to influence people that very few other things can do. This is not just because of who the artist behind the song is, but because melodies and instruments aid words in portraying a message. Some sounds included in music have more power to fuel change and emotions then the words themselves do. Sometimes it is difficult to listen to speakers just simply talk and get a message across. Music is something different that people all around the world can relate and take a liking to. Artists have the power to tell a personal story. They can use every word as a tool to sharpen the sword they use to spread change, awareness, and major events in their lives. Artists that use music an outlet to speak on social issues should always be commended no matter their opinion. This is because fans and listeners might have contrasting opinions and then cease supporting an artist. A song about a change I support is "Keep Ya Head Up" by 2Pac. In it he calls on men of all color to take on a bigger role in kids lives. “And uh, to all the ladies havin’ babies on they own / I know it’s kinda rough and you’re feelin’ all alone” This is important because in too many situations women are forced to raise children on their own. At the end of the day it's all about the kids because they are the future. Giving children a sense of family and full love ensures a better future for all of society.

I strongly agree with you that artist are telling personal stories and getting their points across much easier than say a speaker would. I really enjoyed reading this post because I agree with a lot of the pints you made.
