Music has a way of making certain people feel a certain way and that all depends on the mood of the song. Some songs are sad and some are happy. Many songs have meaning behind them, and you can find the meaning easily if you can understand the history and social context of the time period that the song was written in. For example, The Star Spangled Banner was written during the war of 1812 when the USA won. Without understanding the history of why it was written, the song doesn't make to much sense. Understanding the song gives you a greater sense of pride when the listen to the Star Spangles Banner because you understand why it was written and what was going on during that time that caused it to be written.
It is very important for artists to get their songs out to the public to voice their opinions because music is the best way to spread a message. Many people do speeches but that does not work as well because 1, speeches are really boring and nobody really likes listening to them, 2, people would much rather listen to a song than a speech, and 3, songs have a beat and a rhythm that people can remember and it will make that message easier to spread because people remember it. Famous artists have a great amount of fans, and what better way to send a message then to your fans in a song.
This is a blog devoted to the ideas and analysis of BSU students as they discover, listen, read, analyze the works of various musical artists, across various genres, whose music centers on political, social, and/or cultural issues. The ultimate goal of the class, other than focusing on the students' writing skills, is to allow them the space and time to express their own opinions and ideas, to expose them to music that can and has made significant change.

this was very well written, I agree that music is a great way for people to spread their voice to get a specific word out for people to hear.
