This week in class our main topic of discussion was 9/11 and the terrorists attacks made on this day in New York. We were able to listen to any different kinds of songs created around this day and I thought it was quite interesting that there were so many, making this a weeks lesson. In a time like that, everyone wants to come together and unite to feel comfort that everything will be ok and we all will come back from this. Musicians out there created music to spread that awareness across the world and share their feelings on it.

My group on Thursday analyzed the song "The Rising" by Bruce Springsteen and I had never heard it before but I really enjoyed it. He really focuses in the lives of the people involved in 9/11, specifically the firefighters. He puts the listeners in their shoes a lot to move us through their day today lives as firefighters and how no one would hav expected a terrorist attack on our country on this day. The firefighters and other first responders were a HUGE part when it came to this day and the aftermath of it all. It's incredible that a situation like this is able to put everything else in perspective for you that you never really know what the next day is going to bring. You don't always know what to expect to come the next day or the next week or month. 9/11 was a day that way too many lives were lost unexpectedly and by being in someone's shoes who went through it, is still impossible because no one who wasn't there could feel their amount of fear and anxiety over possible outcomes.

Other songs that were analyzed by groups were a lot about the coming together after an event like this happens. I think it's important for musicians and other famous people out there to share their sympathy with victims or family members or just other citizens saddened by this event. It shows that no matter your title or how important you are to the world, you can still check back as an everyday American and be affected like everyone else. The songs stressed that we will come back from this and grow as a country and be better than ever. This will only make us stronger and more united as one.

Tragedies like 9/11 are the worst thing a country could go through and it's really important that when something like that happens, we all stand together. Putting aside all the differences people may have, being one is important, showing that everyone feels the same pain and no one is alone at a time like that.
