On September
11th, 2001 the nation stood still, and numb when tragedy struck the
World Trade Center, and the Pentagon. 2,996 victims lost their lives during
this tragedy including firefighters, and police officers.
The nation
stood together in unity, and honor when this event took place. Many artists wrote
songs to help the nation recover from this tragic event. Many artists like the
Cranberries, Bruce Springsteen, Nas wrote songs to help the nation recover, and
shed some light on the situation.
One song
that stood out to me was New New York
by The Cranberries, our group in class analyzed this song that was written in
2002 about 9/11. This song was about when each new day is given our hearts are
still numb, but we continue to move on with each day. The song continues with its
repetitive chorus to emphasize a new day.
One line that stood out to me was “30th
of May, Ground Zero today” this line stood out to me because citizens of New
York were so used to seeing the World Trade Center and after this tragedy
Ground Zero is in its place.
When tragedy
strikes artists find a way to create songs to help people grieve and serve
unity together. When the Manchester arena bombings took place, Ariana Grande
dedicated her whole album Sweetener to
the victims who lost their lives when it happened. When the Boston bombing took place Neil Diamond performed Sweet Caroline in memory for all those victims who lost their lives, and spreading the message of unity.
Its important
when tragedy strikes we put aside our differences and stand together as one
united nation.
September 11th, 2001 was a day where New York came
together as one helping on another and grieving together.
We are a country and we stand united.
I like how you compared how artists get their voices out especially with artists from today.
