Together We Stand

In today's class, we heard from four different groups and the songs that they analyzed. In this unit, we are focusing on songs about 9/11, which was shown in each of the songs played today. The combination of me being only a year old and not venturing into this side of music held be back from realizing just how many people wrote songs about this tragic event. I also noticed that these songs are not one specific genre; they range everywhere from rap to country to rock to pop. This shows that everyone wanted to show their love and concern for our citizens.

Though this was clearly a horrendous event, it allowed the country to band together to help promote change. For example, the song that my group analyzed was called "Rule" by Nas. In his song, Nas is essentially telling the listeners that we all need to come together and promote peace, not rage war and use violence against others. 9/11 is a prime example of people not promoting peace and the impact was awful not just on the people of New York, but the country as a whole.

I think all of these artists making songs about 9/11 shows the care and unity of our community. They help to show those impacted by the terrorist attack that they are not alone and have the support and love from thousands of being around the country. Unfortunately, it took an event that killed thousands to bring everyone together and this could not have happened on its own. That was another idea that came up in some of the songs. People need to have each other's backs and end the need to be on top. Instead, people can be together.

  2. I liked how the songs were different genres. It makes it cool that they can all make music about it.
