Make America Free Again!
So, for this week we have talked about different songs
that are associated with protesting. We discussed Oh, Freedom by Odetta, Talkin’
Bout a Revolution by Tracy Chapman, and Born
in the U.S.A by Bruce Springsteen.
These songs were known for their message of protest to
the world. We watched these performances in class to bring the song more to
life. We see these artists using their platform as base to project how they
feel about a certain topic. I enjoyed the message from “Born in the U.S.A” by
Bruce Springsteen because for many years its been a tradition to listen to this
song during the Fourth of July. My family, and I never really paid attention to
the lyrics we just used the catchy chorus as a symbol of patriotism.
After listening to this song countless amount of times
this week I understood the concept of the song, and the message of protest
Springsteen wanted to have his message was that’s what it’s like to be born in
America. There was poverty everywhere, he was drafted to the Vietnam War, and
when he came back he didn’t have a job. It’s sad that people from different
countries believe that America is really the greatest country to live in they
don’t see the corruption that comes with it.
Today artists are inspired by past musicians who
weren’t afraid to speak their mind to the world. There is a song that stood out
to me this week It’s called Land of the
Free by Joey Bada$$ his song is about the corruption of America dating all
the way back to the Civil Rights Movement. His message was specifically to
President Donald Trump about racism, and how America isn’t really the land of
the free. In his music video he uses symbols of the KKK with a burning cross,
and there is an appearance of President Donald Trump MAGA shirt. His song was
talked about for weeks as he received criticism from FOX News, and CNN.
I think this
song comes in connection with Bruce Springsteen’s song Born in the U.S.A
because people are oblivious to what America is about these artists both use a
catchy beat but use serious lyrics to the song. Another comparison is that
their music videos ties in connection on the true representation of what
America is about.
I really enjoyed this week’s discussions in class
about the different artist who protested it gives people a chance to hear what
they have to say. It’s hard to think that celebrities are regular people too we
just don’t realize it because of their fame, and fortune.
I really you hope you guys can check out the music
video Land of the Free I think it’s
inspiring and has a connection with Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A
So, the question is America really a land of the free?
I like how you related our class discussion to a song that you personally listened to. I also enjoyed your take on the song "Born in the USA". Good job!

DeleteIn regard to the question you posed at the end, America is a free country. Unfortunately though, it is no longer at the top for economic and social freedom.
