Music has always been a tuneful force for political change. The
Greeks were among the first people to realize the potential of music. Throughout
the week we learned about different ways music has impacted people’s lives in a
political, and in a personal way. In my first blog post I decided to talk about
how music has always had a political change. Today a lot of artist are standing
up on what they believe in. They protest racism, government, and police brutality.
It’s crazy how a certain artist can impact tons of lives. Going back to the
Greeks I disagreed with Plato because I don’t think any musical innovations are
dangerous and must be prohibited. Music is a way people can express themselves,
and some music is also like a history lesson, it talks about how music has reflected
in the past.
Music has existed for centuries, in today’s society you see
many artists who are expressing themselves through songs, and live performances.
For example, in 2016 Beyoncé performed at the VMA’s her performance was talked
about for weeks, because it signified a protest police brutality, and gun
violence. Another example is Logic, who performed at the 2018 VMA his
performance was a protest about immigration, and the president. You can see how
much music has impacted people lives. When you see a performance on TV it is
completely different than listening to it on the radio.
One of my favorite quotes is by Zach De La Rocha “One of the
great things about young people is that they do question. That they do care
deeply about justice. And that they have open minds”. This quote really stood
out to me because in today's society millennial's are protesting for a political change.
This was my favorite discussion this week because as a young teenager I look up
too many artists and when I see my favorite artist standing up for their rights
it makes me want to have a change, and it makes me feel like I’m not alone there
is other people that want a change too not just regular people but celebrities
too. Below I have attached some links to the Beyoncé performance, and Logic’s
performance at the VMA’s these two were my absolute favorites and I hope you guys
like it too!
Within your blog I really liked how you brought up the fact that when you talk about some of your favorite artists having the same thoughts in wanting something to change. It makes you feel like its not just you but everybody that listens to them together, even the celebrity fighting for something they all believe in. I also like how you not only talked about the performances but even gave the videos so everybody else can experience them if they haven't already. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThe videos were an awesome addition to your blog post. I also really enjoyed the quote you included from Zach De La Rocha, I loved learning about him this week and I think that quote you chose was a perfect illustration of his character and what he believed in.
