Every time when the subject slavery comes up, I stay quiet and not saying anything because of how strongly I feel about it. I rather not offend anyone with my words. In class today 9/20/18 we were listening to 2 songs and a video about Nina Simone on Netflix. The song Mississippi Goddam by Nina Simone shows how much of a strong and brave women because no one had the courage to do what she did. She sang that song everywhere she could. I respect her for what she did because it takes one and everyone else will follow.
Nina Simone tone in Mississippi Goddam was anger, frustration, and sadness. When she sang “School children sitting in jail” was about the 4 children that past in that fire you would hear the frustration and sadness. She constantly says ‘'Do it slow which mean she’s talking to the whites and towards the end you can hear the anger in her voice. Their was on line that really spoke to me “I think every day's gonna be my last” because I feel like most African Americans feel the same way. You never know when your times up or when someone speeds the process in doing so. With everything going on with whites vs blacks it has most the African Americans community shook honestly. Everyone knows the saying Black Lives Matter and yes that is true but I’ve been hearing that most caucasians also saying All Lives Matter. I would’ve believe that if they wasn’t killing more blacks than whites so no I don’t agree to that at all. They’ve killed too many of my brothers and sisters.
When I first heard Mississippi Goddam in class truly, I was surprised and angry because like I said before talking about slavery does something to me. It’s still going on today but not in the way that it used to be. Now today instead of whites having blacks picking cotton they try to ruin our careers and many more. Look at how much of a hard time they gave the first African American president. Barack Obama couldn’t do the things that he wanted to do but Trump is allowed to do whatever he pleases why? Does have to do with the color of skin? or Does it have to do with how much of a great person, organized, well spoken, and great politician? This is off topic but it’s a little funny my mom calls him jump because of how he’s all over the place and never knows what he’s talking about. Instead of hitting us it’s been replaced with shooting blacks in plain sight. Let’s not forget about Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, or that poor boy that was beating and rolled into a gym mat. They’re so many victims that suffered and for what? I have an idea why they’re doing this but I’ll keep it myself I am not here to offend anyone. They’re still fights going on between whites and black till this day and if anyone doesn’t than I don’t know what rocks you’ve hiding under.
I really liked your blog post, and how much you talked about how brave Nina Simone was. I like how mentioned that their are artists who followed her in her footsteps. Nice work
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, talking about slavery starts up a fire in me also. There still is fighting between the two races, and people just choose to turn the other cheek.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this post so much! Its funny that nobody wanted to say All Lives Matter until Black Lives Matter came about. All lives matter isn't a movement, its just a protest of the black lives matter movement, which is awful and sad! It's also funny that for a black man to be president, he needed to be the most qualified and brilliant man possible, and people still dog him and call him stupid! And then following him, we get a reality tv star that has no political background. Shows how things work in this country.
